Mr. James Fred Byers, age 80, of Moravian Falls passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist – Wilkes Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Rev. James Wingler and Rev. Darryl Wagoner officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 until 12:30 PM at the church prior to the service. Entombment with Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 Honor Guard and the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard will be at Mountlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel.

James was born July 4, 1945, in Wilkes County to Fred and Della Miller Byers. He served in the United States Army for three years. He proudly served as a deacon at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church for many years. He was a devoted Sunday school teacher at Hillcrest Baptist Church where he was also a very faithful and devoted member.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters; Reba Byers, Mary Brown, Darlene Williams and his brothers; Wayne Byers and Burl Byers.

He is survived by his wife; Bertie Rose Goforth Byers of the home, daughters; Sherrie Reavis (Greg) of Hays, Tammy Haire (Thomas) of Statesville, Jamie Johnson (Brandon) of Millers Creek, son; Keith Byers (Stacy) of Moravian Falls, six grandchildren; Stephanie Reavis, Britni Brown, Tyler Eldreth, Colby Johnson, Devin Byers, Dalton Byers, seven great-grandchildren; Aaliyah Reavis, Aniyah Allen, Braiden Brown, Zayden Brown, Aubri Carlton, Kaiden Brown, N’izayah Holland and a great-granddaughter on the way Marlee Rose Brown.
