Mr. James Arvin Carlton, age 87, of Moravian Falls passed away Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Ronald Howell and Rev. Willie Jackson officiating. The casket will be placed in the church at 1:30 PM. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 PM Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

James was born April 3, 1938, in Wilkes County to Bright and Ruby Carlton, but was raised in Taylorsville by Mamie and George Carlton after the death of his mother.  James was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. He was a faithful member until the decline of his health. He loved to hunt and spend time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Flossie Virginia Carlton; sons, Jamie Lamonte Carlton, James Carlton Jr. (infant), Anthony Carlton (infant); a sister, Lois Steele; three brothers, Arnie Carlton, Hubert Lee Carlton and Burke Dwight Carlton.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Angela Carlton Parsons and husband Malcolm of Moravian Falls; son, Wade Hayes of Boomer; grandchildren, Brent Parsons and wife Vanessa, Brandon Parsons and wife Kayleigh, Jamilyn Parsons and fiancé Rae’Kwon and great-grandchildren, Brayden Parsons, Kaliyah Parsons, Camilla Parsons and Marleigh Parsons.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 3841 S NC Hwy 18, Moravian Falls, NC 28654.
