James Blackburn Obituary

Mr. James Blackburn, age 82, of Moravian Falls, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2024, at his home.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Boomer Advent Christian Church with Pastor David Jones and Rev Mark Reece, Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:45 PM until 1:45 PM prior to the service at the church. 

Mr. Blackburn was born August 8, 1941, in Wilkes County to Olin and Myrtle Johnson Blackburn.  He was a lifelong member of the Boomer community.  He was an entrepreneur, a smart businessman, and truly believed in Genesis 3:19 “By the sweat of your brow you earn your bread.”   He was very athletic and enjoyed fishing and playing his guitar.  He loved farming and being outdoors and was happiest on his equipment playing in the dirt.  He was deeply loved by his family and will forever be missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Pauline Childress, Pansy Barrette, Faye Carver, and Dovie Brewer; and four brothers, Granville Porter, Jesse Porter, Jimmy Blackburn, and Glenn Blackburn.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Pearson Blackburn, of the home; six daughters, Teresa Reece (Mark) of Elkin, Mandy Wingo (John) of Pinnacle, Selena Blackburn (Jason) of Wilkesboro, Brandy Blackburn of Winston-Salem, Sharon Douglas of Moravian Falls, Paula Maricle (Harold) of Boomer; nine grandchildren, Andrea Wilmoth (Weslee), Mark Reece, Jr (Katy), Seth Reece (Maggie), John Wingo, Jr. , Kimberly Rose Wingo, Tyler Cardwell, Heather Jones, Morgan Thompson (Justin), Noah Blackburn (fiancée Raegan); thirteen great-grandchildren, Bailey Cardwell, Avery Cardwell, Jude Cardwell, Jase Jones, Levi Jones, Weston Thompson, Colton Thompson, Tess Wilmoth, Tayton Wilmoth, Anderson Reece, Annalee Reece, Laurel Reece, Isla Reece; one sister,  Mary Ledford (Sam);and one sister-in-law, Betty Blackburn.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made in honor of James’ great-grandson, Colton, to the Williams Syndrome Association, 243 Broadway #9188, Newark NJ 07104.
