Mr. James Edward Almoney, age 91 of Wilkesboro, formerly of Nutley, New Jersey passed away Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Ridge Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
James was born May 20, 1934, in Baltimore, MD to George A. and Lula Miller Almoney. Jim lived a full and valued life devoting himself to the service of others.
He graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism in 1956; Lehigh University with a Master of Arts degree in Political Science in 1963 and from the State University of New York in 1965.
He held numerous positions as a Public Relations Consultant with major companies in the New York area. Notably, with the Union Carbide Plastics Company 1956-1962; Jersey Central Power & Light Co. 1963-1965; Western Electric Co. 1966-1969; Essex County, Newark New Jersey 1969-1970; the New Jersey Turnpike Authority 1971- until his retirement.
Jim was involved in many organizations. His was a deacon in the St. Paul’s Congregational Church; Pica Club; Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity; the Benevolent Order of Elks; Jaycees; Kiwanis; the American Political Science Association and the Society of Plastics Engineers.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife; Betsy Hering Almoney of Rock Hill, SC, first cousins; Lela Beshears Mitchell of Alexandria, VA, Brenda Beshears Richardson of Wilkesboro and several other cousins and special family friend; Ed Snyder.
