Mrs. Jackie Winkler Church, age 85 of Wilkesboro passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Wilkes Health & Rehabilitation.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Lewis Fork Baptist Church with Rev. David Wellborn, Rev. Dwayne Andrews, and Rev. Sherrill Wellborn officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM until 3:30 PM prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Church was born July 15, 1938, in Watauga County to Ulysses Grant Winkler and Willie Glea Norris Winkler. She married the love of her life, Howard Taft Church, Jr. on April 13, 1957 in Blowing Rock, N.C.
She attended Union Elementary School and Millers Creek High school. Jackie Graduated in the first class of West Wilkes High School in 1956.
As a teenager her first job was at Kress Dime Store. After high school she worked at Jenkins Wholesale and The Credit Bureau. She began her banking career with NCNB, then moving to Southern National Bank, which became BB&T. Jackie retired from BB&T. After retiring, she worked part-time for H&R Block. In addition to her full-time work, she was a Mary Kay consultant.
Jackie was a faithful member of Lewis Fork Baptist Church. Her most treasured times there were singing in the choir and teaching the Sisters in Christ Sunday School Class for 40 plus years. She cooked many meals over the years for family, friends and church members.
Her greatest love was God, Junior, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Taft Church, Jr.; one brother, Jerry Grant Winkler; and one son-in-law, Jerry Sidden.
She is survived by two daughters, Denise Church Sidden of Wilkesboro and Michelle Church Isom and husband, Dale of Wilkesboro; a son, Douglas Howard Church of Wilkesboro; four grandchildren, Nicole Deal Slate and husband, Johnny of Wilkesboro, Dustin Deal and wife Whitney of Wilkesboro, Daniel Isom and wife, Katie of North Wilkesboro, and Caitlen Isom Wurdeman and husband, Matthew of Elkin; eleven great-grandchildren, Lillie Slate, Juliana Isom, Will Slate, Glory Maeve Deal, Maggie Slate, Mercer Deal, Ruthie Deal, Wilder Wurdeman, Lexi Isom, Annie Isom and Eli Wurdeman; two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Church Ellis and husband, Bill of Wilkesboro; and Patricia Winkler of Purlear and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
