Mr. Jack Mitchell Thornburg, Sr., age 93 of North Wilkesboro, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2021 at Pruitt Health Care.

A graveside service with Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 Honor Guard and the North Carolina National Guard  Honor Guard will be held 1:00 PM Friday, at Arbor Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Eddie Tharpe officiating.  The family will receive friends from 11:30 PM until 12:30 PM in the church prior to the service.

Mr. Thornburg was born October 9, 1928 in Washington County, TN to Walker and Nellie Vines Thornburg. He served in the United States Army as a Paratrooper serving in the Korean Conflict, and was a founding member of Roaring River Volunteer Fire Department. He was a teacher and coach in the Wilkes County School System for 32 years at Wilkes Central High School.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Ward Thornburg; one sister, Betty Stott; and one brother, Hank Thornburg.

Mr. Thornburg is survived by one daughter, Pam Thornburg of Charlotte; and two sons, Jack M. Thornburg, Jr. (Jackie) and wife, Stephanie of Boone, and Todd Thornburg of Boone; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Nicki, Katie, Leah, and Ethan; and two great grandchildren, Melanie and Gavin.

The family requests that anyone attending the visitation to please wear a face covering.
