Hershel Dillard, age 93 of North Wilkesboro, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Wilkes Health and Rehabilitation.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Tharpe officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
He was born June 8, 1931, in Wilkes County to James Harrison Dillard and Mattie Reynolds Dillard.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1950 to 1954. He was stationed in Hawaii and in Japan and served on the USS Prairie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Branham and Carrie Bell Hincher and six brothers, Claude Dillard, Grover Dillard, Herman Dillard, Lonnie Dillard, Albert Dillard and Robert Dillard.
He is survived by daughter Debbie Quade (Michael) of Hernando, FL; two sons, Steve Dillard (Karen) of Wilkesboro and Mark Dillard (Teresa) of Badin Lake; five grandchildren, Lindsey Smith (Rob) of West Jefferson, Ashley Vanderberry (Andrew) of Fort Mill, SC, Bradley Dillard (Taylor) of Boone, David Dillard and Jacob Dillard of Badin Lake; eight great grandchildren, Hayley Smith, Tucker Smith, Emma Vanderberry, Reagan Vanderberry, Owen Vanderberry, Layla Dillard, Josie Dillard and Laynie Dillard; two sisters, Nannie Dillard of Wilkesboro and Joyce Shehan of Greensboro; and one brother, Don Dillard of Wilkesboro.
