Greg Edwards

Mr. Charles Gregory Edwards, age 65 of Wilkesboro passed away Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Wake Forest Baptist-Wilkes Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro with Dr. Bert Young officiating. Burial will be in Scenic Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 8:00 PM Monday evening at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

Greg was born May 27, 1957 in Alleghany County to C.T. Edwards, Jr. and Kathleen Carpenter Edwards. He was a Deacon of the First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro.

He was known as Greg to his family, friends, and community. Greg was a believer and follower of Christ, a loving husband, an exemplary father, a devoted son, and a community banker. He practiced the art of friendship and was a student of golf. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards and told “goofy” stories that taught life lessons to others and especially his beloved son. He coached youth sports and always remembered the names of those that he met on his earthly path.  Greg served on a number of community organizations during his career, including Friends of Youth, Communities in Schools, Oakwoods Country Club, YMCA, Habitat, Wilkes Chamber of Commerce, The United Way, and the Wilkes Public Health Dental Clinic. He supported the mission of Wilkes Developmental Day School. Greg knew his customers as friends and loved his family well. He graduated from Appalachian State University in 1979 and began his banking career that had spanned almost 44 years. He was President and founder of Great State Bank before joining Skyline National Bank as Executive Vice President.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his wife, Pam Goodman Edwards of the home, his mother, Kathleen Edwards of Wilkesboro, a son; Geoffrey Charles Edwards and wife Olivia of Mooresville.

The family respectfully request no flowers and memorials be made to First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro, United Way of Wilkes or Wilkes Developmental Day School.
