Gozeal Ferguson ,age 92, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Gozeal was born on July 22, 1931, in Boomer, NC to Worth and Mary Ella Barnes Carlton, where she spent her formative years. She went on to attend Lincoln Heights and graduated in 1951. She was an active member of her community as a Senior Companion for 16 years. Throughout her lifetime, she was known for her yeast rolls and sweet potato pies, her dedication, and passion for feeding and helping others extended far beyond her kitchen.
But more than anything, Gozeal was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and sharing stories but most of all she loved church. She was always there to offer a smile, moral support, and a word of encouragement, no matter what challenges she faced.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Worth Ferguson, daughter; Mary Ferguson, four sisters; Clara Tugman, Sadie Carlton, Mary Alice Ferguson, Maggie Sue Barnes, four brothers; Allen Carlton, Daniel Carlton, Charles Edward Carlton, and Richard Carlton.
Gozeal is survived by her children, Marcella Howell of Boomer, Michael Ferguson of Wilkesboro, Freida Ferguson of North Wilkesboro, Elaine Ferguson -Harris of Concord, NC, Fred Ferguson of North Wilkesboro, Deborah Reid and family of Morganton NC, and Bobbie Perkins of Wilkesboro. She had 10 grandchildren, Carol Howell of Boomer NC, Lavonda Howell of Boomer NC, Mikey Ferguson of Wilkesboro NC, Tony Harris of Charlotte NC, Jason Taylor of Greensboro NC, Alphonzo and Anthony Leach, Tamyra Howell of Taylorsville NC, Annika and Kylie Perkins of Wilkesboro NC and ten great grandchildren, Kebreanna Fox, Ta’Kyra Felder, Elijah Leach, Xavian Leach, Adaira Leach, Ezekiel Leach, Kaleb Eller, Karizma Harris, Isaiah Taylor, Sidney Harris, Carlos and Tyizza McKeithan, three brothers; Doug Carlton of Boomer, Namon Carllton of Shelby, Harrison Carlton of Winston-Salem, and a host of nieces and nephews. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held for family and friends 2:00 PM Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Pastor Brent Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Scenic Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM prior to the service at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cancer Society, P.O. Box 9, North Wilkesboro, NC, 28659 in memory of family and friends who have been affected by cancer.
