Glenda Barker Obituary

Glenda Dancy Barker, age 79, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026. Born on February 13, 1947, Glenda lived a life marked by unwavering faith, devotion to family, and a servant's heart.

A longtime resident of Hays, North Carolina, she and her beloved husband, Colon "CW" Wade Barker, relocated to DeLand, Florida, in 2019 to be closer to their son and grandchildren, who brought them tremendous joy. Glenda shared a remarkable love story with CW that spanned more than six decades. Married on December 5, 1964, they celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2024. Together, they built a life grounded in Christian faith, family values, and steadfast commitment to one another.

Following CW's passing on November 13, 2025, Glenda continued to demonstrate the grace, strength, and faith that had defined their life together. Throughout her career, Glenda was known for her dedication, professionalism, and kindness. She worked for Wilkesboro Savings and Loan, Sturdivant Life Insurance in North Wilkesboro, Chatham Manufacturing in Elkin, and the Health Foundation at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. She developed lasting friendships wherever she worked and was respected for her integrity and compassionate nature.

More than any title she held professionally, Glenda was a devoted Christian whose faith shaped every aspect of her life. She was a faithful member of Liberty Grove Baptist Church in North Carolina, where she served for many years as Minister of Music. Her love for worship and music was evident through her service playing the piano and organ, singing in the choir, and helping lead countless worship services. Through her musical gifts and dedication to her church family, she touched the lives of many and helped lead others in praise and worship. After moving to Florida, she became a member of Westview Baptist Church, where she continued to live out her faith and enjoy fellowship with her church family.

Glenda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Colon "CW" Wade Barker; her father, Carroll Gambill Dancy, in 2000; her mother, Willye Bradley Dancy, in 2018; and her brother, Carroll Gambill Dancy Jr., in 1971.

She is survived by her loving son, Brian Wade Barker; her cherished granddaughter, Alexandra Nicole Barker; and her cherished grandson, Gabriel Andrew Barker. She also leaves behind extended family members, lifelong friends, former coworkers, and fellow believers whose lives were enriched by her friendship, encouragement, and example.

Those who knew Glenda will remember her gentle spirit, warm smile, deep faith, and unconditional love for her family. She found great joy in serving others, worshiping through music, and spending time with those she loved most. Her legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

While her family mourns her passing, they find comfort in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ and in knowing that Glenda has been reunited with her beloved husband and other loved ones who went before her.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. David Sparks and Rev. Glenn Dancy III officiating. The family will receive from 12:30 until 1:30 prior to the service at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
