Gladys Ruth (Broyhill) Cardwell

Gladys Ruth Broyhill Cardwell a loving wife, mother and nannie went to her heavenly home at age 64, on Saturday, October 2, 2021. Gladys was born to the late Dewey Robert and Minnie Ruth Gambill Broyhill. 

Gladys was a graduate of Wilkes Central High School.  She was employed by Schneider Mills, Taylorsville, NC, for 20 years, and Wal-Mart, of Wilkesboro, NC, as a Department Manager.

She married her sweetheart Robert James Cardwell and would be celebrating their 49th wedding anniversary this year. They enjoyed retirement together by spending time with their family, traveling and supporting their church. 

She is survived by her husband; Robert James Cardwell of the home; two daughters; Renae Cardwell Ritenour (David),  and Lori Cardwell Burgess (James); four grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart; Isaac, Davis, Ella and Connor.  Six siblings: Harvey Broyhill (Connie), Ralph Broyhill (Malinda), Kenny Broyhill (Mary Daryl), Dorothy Phillips (William), Betty Jean Cardwell, and many nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her sister, Lois Broyhill Hefner and brother, Ray Monroe Broyhill.

Gladys was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro, NC. She enjoyed volunteering at the church’s food bank and supported many outreach programs with the church.  She loved the Lord and her desire was to be a humble servant. 

The family will have a private celebration of life. Reins Sturdivant is in charge of services. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Antioch Baptist Church Building Fund.
