Mrs. Gertie Lee Byrd Cooper, age 90, of Ronda met her Lord and Savior, Saturday, March 7, 2026, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Roaring River Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Wood and Rev. Kenny Pardue officiating. The casket will be placed in the church from 10:30 until 11:00 AM prior to the service in the church. Burial will be in Roaring River Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the burial at the church.
Gertie was born on February 4, 1936, in Wilkes County to Lawrence Rester and Ezetta Jordan Byrd. She was a devoted church member of Roaring River Baptist Church. She was a devoted and hardworking woman who spent many years serving her community as a retired school cafeteria worker. Cooking was one of her greatest joys. Gertie had a servant’s heart; she found happiness in helping others and she loved everyone she knew. She also found great comfort and joy in good old gospel hymns.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Joe H. Cooper; daughter, Tammy Elledge; sisters, Etta Mae Wood, Edith Porter, Norma Jean Sprinkle and brother Kenny Byrd.
She is survived by her son, Lynn Hoots (Diane) of Ronda; son-in-law, Keith Elledge; grandchildren, Adrian Church, Cindy Beshears, Ginger Billings, Tyler Wray; great-grandchildren, Grey Billings, Dixie Billings, Malin Wray, Kohen Wray, Clarity Wray and brother, Junior Byrd of Ronda.
