Georgia Ruth (Byrd) Roope

Mrs. Georgia Ruth Byrd Roope, age 91 of Thurmond, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at her home.

Funeral Services will be held 2:30 PM Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeremy Simpson  and Pastor Tony White officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Roope was born March 11, 1930 in Wilkes County to Brady and Vesta Wood Byrd. She was a devoted mother and grandmother that loved her children and grandchildren.  She loved her church family as well.  She loved to garden and can the harvest she gathered from it and was a great cook. She retired from Chatham Manufacturing after 25 years of service

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Truman Leander Roope; a granddaughter, Carey Roope; two sisters, Edith Woods and Vermell Tulbert; three brothers, Elmer Byrd, Elton Byrd, and Reece Byrd.

She is survived by two daughters, Janice Wilmoth and husband, Billy of Traphill, and Deborah Higgins and husband, Lonnie of Thurmond; one son, Norris Roope and wife Barbara Roope of Rural Hall; seven grandchildren, Heather Williams, Allison Osborne, Denise Reid, Dana Deaton, Michael Higgins, Whitney Higgins, and Kayla White; fifteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Linda Carol Thiesing of Wilkesboro; one brother,  Dwight Byrd and wife, Carol of Hays; and a beloved furbaby, Levi.
