With saddened hearts and uplifted eyes we wish to inform of the passing of our beloved Gary Edward Martin of Hays, NC into the hands of our creator early Tuesday morning, October 13, 2020.
Son of James Edward and Virginia Delores Miller Martin, Gary was a Father, brother, educator, supporter, protector and guide to all who knew him. He served in the US Army and was a proud American. He loved his children, his extended family, his home and especially his beloved high school sweetheart and wife of 38 years, Janet Roland Martin.
He was eternally supportive, never lacking in enthusiasm, or a kind word for a ‘job well done’. He loved seeing beauty in the smallest things...a sunset, a flower, the changing of the leaves.
A ‘perfectionist’ also at heart, no detail was too small to attend to and he always taught his boys the idea, ‘if it’s worth doing, its worth doing well’. He enjoyed music, cars, a good movie, his current events, a good cup of coffee and a conversation. He was a deep thinker, and a wonderfully enlightened conversationalist. Aristotle said, ‘The mark of an educated mind is the ability to entertain an idea without accepting it.’ In this regard and others, he was exceptional. Always quick to lend an ear, and to give you his full attention, he made you feel important, and most of all, he made you feel understood. Even if he didn’t agree with you, he would stand by you. This is why he was such a bedrock to so many who knew him.
This is why we loved him.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Joey Byrd officiating. Burial with Military Honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday evening at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
Gary is survived by his two sons, Chris & wife Maja of Raleigh, NC and their 3 children, Ava, Ella, and Noah and Greg & wife Carolyn of North Wilkesboro and their 2 sons Jackson and Landon, as well as his sister Barbara Martin Baker, her 3 children, Kevin Farrington, Jason Farrington, Michelle Jarvis and her daughters; Arieana and Erica and Barbara’s husband Norman Baker all of Hays.
We rejoice in the knowledge that he is reunited with his beloved wife Janet in eternity, where we shall meet them ourselves when our time is called.
