Mrs. Fredia Delorse Smithey, age 77 of Wilkesboro, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Atrium Health Wilkes Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Fishing Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Joel Blevins and Rev. David Wellborn officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was born on May 31, 1948, in Wilkes County to John Genio “Gene” and Betty Virginia Soots Smithey. She was a member of Fishing Creek Baptist Church where she served as Secretary/Treasurer. She was affectionately known as Nana to everyone.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Jackson “Jack” Smithey; brother, Johnny Ray Smithey; son-in-law, Jim Glass; and brother-in-law, William Hawkins.
She is survived by daughter, Wendy Glass of North Wilkesboro; son, Rickey Lee Smithey (Donna) of Wilkesboro; five grandchildren, Harlee Thompson (Michael), Madison Knox (Gabe), Jackson Glass, Angela Shumate (Mark), Adrian Smithey (Abigail), eight great grandchildren, MaKenzie Thompson, Ember Thompson, Maxton Knox, Imogen Shumate, Jude Shumate, Noah Lenderman, Scarlett Smithey and Fallon Smithey; three sisters, Brenda Shew (Alton) of North Wilkesboro, Gaynell Hawkins of Wilkesboro, Toni Jo Pruitt (Lynn) of Hays; two brothers, Bill Smithey (Jody) of Madisonville, TN, Dean Smithey (Barbara) of Taylorsville; sister-in-law, Nora Harvel of Bradenton, FL; and special great nephew, Tucker Haynes.
