Mr. Franklin Douglas Vannoy, 82 of Millers Creek, passed away at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC on New Year’s Day, January 1st, 2026.
A private Family Graveside service will be held at Scenic Memorial Gardens.
Frank was born November 16th, 1943, the son of Helen Whittington Vannoy and Joseph Conrad Vannoy. He was a member of the Millers Creek United Methodist Church. Frank attended business college in Charlotte, began his career at Northwestern Bank, and later retired from First Union Bank. He then continued his career at Lowe’s Home Improvement Co. as an IT professional and software analyst for the remainder of his extraordinary career.
Frank greatly enjoyed spending time with family and caring for everyone, including strangers, in a variety of different ways as well as gardening in the summer months since he had a very green thumb. He was politically active in his community. He also held himself to very high standards when spreading kindness and giving back to others. Frank was a perfect example of a genuinely selfless and kindhearted person with an unmatchable level of intelligence and wit that made him memorable to every single person that had the pleasure of meeting him.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Osborne and Linda Higgins of Wilkesboro, and a brother, Little Joe.
Those left to cherish his memory are his spouse of 60 years Lucille Blankenship Vannoy; a daughter, Jamie Vannoy Crutchfield and spouse Chuck of State Road; a son, Joseph Franklin Vannoy and spouse Gretchen of Roanoke, Virginia; grandchildren, Caleigh Ruth Vannoy of Boone, and Millie and Anderson Vannoy of Roanoke, Virginia, as well as his beloved pet dog Rusty. Also, four sisters-in-law: Barbara Handy, Stella Roberts, Sue Alexander (Benny) of Wilkesboro, Jane Stubbs (Van) of Greensboro, and several nieces and nephews.
