Mrs. Ella Mae Parsons, affectionately known as the Queen of Buck, moved to her heavenly home April 14, 2024.

Mrs. Parsons celebration of life service will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Brady Hayworth officiating.  Burial will be in church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 till 2:00 PM prior to the service at the Church.

Mrs. Parsons was recently celebrated for her one hundredth birthday with an outpouring of beautiful cards, candy, flowers, visits, and an interview by the Wilkes Journal Patriot.

Mrs. Parsons was born to George Daughton and Barbara Allen McGlamery on February 19, 1924. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, James Everett “Junior” Parsons, by her in-laws, James Everett Parsons Senior and Zora Adams Parsons, her beloved son Jerry Lane Parsons and loved son in law Tommy Bumgarner, her six siblings Richard (Grace), Guy, Claude (Isolde), James David, Marvin, and Betty Mae McGlamery.

Mrs. Parsons attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Highway 16.  She loved her church and her church family.  She was a faithful member for many years of the choir, taught Sunday school, and an active member of the Lady’s Circle.  She was also known for her kindness throughout the community for taking her fellow widowed ladies to church.

Upon graduation from Millers Creek School, she went to work at Wilkes Hosiery Mill until her children were born and was a homemaker for several years.  After her husband died, in 1972, she went to work at the Millers Creek School cafeteria. She so enjoyed serving the children and was known to give hearty portions to each of them, as well as the staff.  After her retirement, upon seeing Mrs. Parsons, many of the former students would recognize her and comment on how kind she had been to them as she served them.

Mrs. Parsons never met a stranger, she was known for her unique hair style(bun), her quick wit, and smiling face.  She prided herself on being able to get a laugh from the most somber of people.

She is survived by her children, Bobbie (Tommy) Bumgarner, Cindy Davis, William (Patsy) Parsons, and daughter-in-law Lougunda Parsons. She had six grandchildren, Jacob Bumgarner, Ella Bess (George) Marshall, Katharine Davis, Sarah Davis, Gabrielle (Tommy) Grooms, and Chandler Parsons. She had three great grandchildren, Trey and Charlotte Grace Marshall and Benjamin Lee Grooms.  Other special family members, Annette Jones, Michael McGlamery, and Ricky Nichols.  Special friends are Shirley Hutchens, Irene Blackburn, Randy and Libby Church and many other close friends that preceded her in death.

The family would like to thank caregivers, Laural Holt and Wanda Hartley for their service, kindness, and friendship during her 6 year homebound care.  The family would also like to express their appreciation for the excellent care given to her at Wilkes Health and Rehabilitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 315, Millers Creek, NC 28651 or Gideon’s International North Camp, PO Box 1791, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.
