Elizabeth Gordon Reins Smoak

Elizabeth Gordon Reins Smoak, 91, of Wilkesboro, passed away Monday, November 23, 2020, at her home. 

The family will hold a private service. 

Gordon was born December 12, 1928 in North Wilkesboro to James Calvin "J.C." and Virginia Netherland Reins. She was a graduate of North Wilkesboro High School and attended Greensboro College.  For over 70 years she was a member of Wilkesboro United Methodist Church, where she was involved in multiple volunteer activities. An advocate of historic preservation, she served on the board of Wilkes Heritage Museum. She also devoted many hours to the American Red Cross, Friends of the Library, and the Cub Scouts. 

Gordon was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Robert Smoak, son Samuel Smoak, and grandson Matthew Hickerson. She is survived by sons James Smoak and wife Luci, of Wilkesboro, and Rick Smoak and wife Lynne, of Salisbury, MD, daughter Caroline Smoak Hickerson and husband David, of McLean, VA, daughter-in-law Mary Martha Smoak of Winston-Salem, grandchildren Ben Smoak of New York, NY, Katie Smoak Kinsley and husband Hank of Cary, William Smoak and wife Camilla of Charlotte, Amanda Smoak Brinkley and husband Michael, of Greenville, SC, Lyndsay Smoak Baker and husband Davis, of Richmond, Emily Smoak Wampler and husband Eric, of Charlottesville, and Jennifer Hickerson, of McLean, VA, and eight great-grandchildren. 

Gordon was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. 

The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be made to Wilkes Heritage Museum, 100 East Main Street, P.O. Box 935, Wilkesboro, NC 28697.
