They married on December 21, 1945. After graduating from Appalachian Teacher’s College, the Shaws moved to Wilkesboro to teach business subjects in 1948. Mrs. Shaw was a business teacher at Millers Creek School, East Wilkes High School, and Wilkes Central High School. She retired from Wilkes County Schools after 39 years of service on June 12, 1996 and continued to teach business classes at Wilkes Community College for the next five years.
