Mrs. Edna Mae Hamby Benton, age 96 of North Wilkesboro, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023 at SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin in Yadkinville.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Union United Methodist Church with Rev. Allen Marsh and Mr. Randall Gambill officiating. The casket will be placed in the church at 1:30 PM. Burial will follow in the Dunkirk United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday evening at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
Mrs. Benton was born October 3, 1926 in Caldwell County to Harrison and Roxie Green Hamby. She was a member of Dunkirk United Methodist Church, was a former president of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW, Union Elementary School PTA, and Union United Methodist Women, was a former Tupperware representative, and worked with Touched by Angels.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Lance Travis Hamby; her second husband, Roscoe Charlie Benton; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Hamby Ledford and Jack, Sr.; three sisters, Beatrice Hamby Triplett, Rose Hamby Eller, and Kay Frances Huffman; and three brothers, Garland Hamby, Willard Hamby, and Luther Hamby.
She is survived by three daughters, Shirley Hamby Coates of Supply, Lydia Hamby Walsh (Nicky) of Millers Creek, and Robin Benton Eastridge (Kenny) of North Wilkesboro; one son, Burl Travis Hamby (Janice) of North Wilkesboro; ten grandchildren, Annette Gambill (Randy), Jack Ledford, Jr. (Misty), Natalie Eller (Glenn), James Weeks, Jr., Doug McClure, Jr. (Linda); Derry Miller (Jeremy), Megan Gambill (David), Kelly Nichols (Jonathan), Courtney Waddell (Jimmy), Lara Eastridge; seventeen great-grandchildren, Eric Gambill, Adam Gambill, Ashton Ledford, Riley Ledford, Carson Ledford, Ansley Jarvis, Lance Weeks, Marissa Weeks, Jeri McClure, Kayla Clark, Olivia Meyerhoffer, Tyler Gambill, Landon Gambill, Cassie Gambill, Jona Nichols, Caleb Nichols, Easton Waddell; two great-great-grandchildren, Braxton Collins and Grayson Snow; two sisters, Reba Hamby Triplett of Milers Creek, Bennie Hamby Johnson of North Wilkesboro; one brother, Wayne Hamby (Norma) of North Wilkesboro; a special relative, Amber Grose.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin, 243 N. Lee Avenue, Yadkinville NC 27055-5431.
