Mr. Henderson was born May 12, 1925, in Wilkes County to the late Dwight and Evie Johnson Henderson. Douglas loved spending time with his family, gardening and tinkering. He had a laugh and a smile that could light up a room. He always said, “We’ve got so much to thank the Lord for, and I am so thankful we have each other”. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and believed in the power of prayer. He taught many young men about Jesus, ethics and how to build character through Sunday School at Shady Grove Baptist and Hickory Grove Baptist and working with the Boy Scouts for many years. He read his Bible daily and was a great Christian example for us all.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Judy Henderson Cersosimo; sister, Lola Henderson Stansell, and brother, Alton Henderson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Zelda Arlene Jarvis Henderson; daughters, Wanda Prevatte (Gene) of Georgetown, SC, and Anita Hill (Butch) of Waxhaw; son, Bruce Henderson (Danette) of Brentwood, TN; son-in-law, Jeff Cersosimo of Gastonia; grandchildren, Cody Prevatte (Mary-Madison), Clint Prevatte (Emily), and Caleb Prevatte, all of Georgetown, SC, Megan Pierre (Jayy) of Monroe, Josh Hill (Malisa) of Mint Hill, and Will Henderson of Brentwood, TN; and great-grandchildren, Maizie Prevatte, Dobson Jay Hill, and Henderson Prevatte.
