Mrs. Dorothy Lee Blackburn Smith, age 95 of Roaring River, passed away Friday, January 10, 2025, at Wilkes Health and Rehabilitation Center. 

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at New Light Baptist Church #1 with Rev. Steve Smith, Rev. David Key and Rev. Joel Blevins officiating. 

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.  

Dorothy was born June 12, 1929, in Wilkes County to Dock and Docia Harrold Blackburn.  She was a member of New Light Baptist Church #1.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; J. W. Smith, two sisters and brothers-in-law; Wilma Holbrook and husband, Everette, Ilene Stone and husband, James.   

She is survived by four daughters; Ann Murphy and husband J. R. of North Wilkesboro, Naomi Greene and husband, John of McGrady, Rachel Grit and husband, Jeff of Roaring River, Doris Coggin and husband, Bill of Roaring River, two sons; Stephen Smith and wife, Phyllis of North Wilkesboro, Dwight Smith of Roaring River, thirteen grandchildren; Robby Smith, Phillip Smith, Stephanie Smith, Kristie Uphoff, Jodi McCurdy, Bradley Smith, Kaitlyn Murphy, Jeremiah Greene, Amanda Greene, Nathan Greene, Heather Pardue, Jaclyn Minton and Taylor Coggin, twelve great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren and a brother; Buford Blackburn and wife, Mary of Wilkesboro. 

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to The Betty Brown Memorial, c/o New Light Baptist Church, 193 New Light Baptist Church Road, Roaring River, NC 28669.
