Obituary

Dorothea “Dorothy” Lydia Price Reed, 97, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2023 in Moravian Falls, NC at the home of her daughter and husband, Fred and Karen Brason.  Dorothy was born to James and Louise Price on October 29, 1925, in Buffalo, NY. Dorothy met her husband, Robert John Reed at The Mohican Market in 1941 where they both worked.  After his return from his service in the Army during WWII, they were married on September 7, 1946.  They were married 72 years.

Dorothy was uniquely gifted to serve others throughout her life and attributed her long life to an attitude of gratitude. During WWII she worked at Curtis Wright Airplane Co. and afterwards employed at Western Electric Co. in HR.  She was a girl scout leader for 12 years and was awarded as a long time Avon representative of 20 years. She and her husband conducted estate sales for many years (D & B Estates) throughout the Buffalo, NY area.  They also traveled to flea markets and managed two antique co-op shops in Clarence, NY.  They lived in Western New York for 53 years and retired in 2009 after which relocating to Moravian Falls, NC in 2010 to be closer to their children.   Dorothy had a positive, joyful disposition, and was always thrilled to have her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren visit with her. She leaves behind a legacy of her love for God. family and country, generosity, kindness, and a heart for serving others. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.

 Dorothy was preceded in death by husband, Robert, parents James & Louise Price, and four brothers and their wives; Leonard (Mildred), George (Louise), Homer (Audrey), and Jim (Constance).

She is survived by three daughters:  Christine L. Reed, of Statesville, North Carolina, Judith R. Walker and husband Dave Walker of Louisville, KY, and Karen R. Brason and husband Fred Wells Brason II of Moravian Falls.  She is also survived by eleven grandchildren:  Matthew Willert (Jaclynn), Andrew Willert (Heidi), Bart Barcelou (Jessica), Ian Barcelou, Bobbie Bro Walker (Chandani), Ted Brason, Lindsey Gough (James), Andrea Pankau, Robert Brason, Barry Walker (Dawn), and Brent Walker; fifteen great grandchildren; Adalynn Belle and Madison Willert, Emma, Andrew, Alex and Hudson Willert, Larkin and Tristan Barcelou,  Brayson and Harper Gough, Giovanni, Ja’Lisa and Nyla Pankau, and Grace and Griffin Walker.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials made to Mountain Valley Hospice. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023, 10:30 AM at the Scenic Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Moravian Falls.
