Mrs. Doris Kerbaugh Bentley passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025. She was born on September 7, 1929, in Johnson City, Tennessee and was the daughter of the late John Thomas Kerbaugh and Eula Leonard Kerbaugh.
The family will receive friends at 1:30 PM Sunday, June 15, 2025, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church, 510 D. Street in North Wilkesboro with Dr. Bert Young officiating. A private burial will be at Mountlawn Memorial Park.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, James M. Bentley, Jr. (Jim), her brothers, Shoun (Bessie), Len (Mildred), Glyn (Quinn), and sisters, Vivian Greene (Kenneth) and Yolande Caudill (Tommy).
Doris was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and recently became a great-grandmother. Her life was grounded by her faith in her Lord Jesus Christ. She was a member of First Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro where she served for many years as a children’s Sunday School teacher. She also volunteered through the years at Northside Baptist Church, in a center for disabled children, as an assistant Girl Scout leader, and with Hospice.
She is survived by her three children, Roger Bentley (Kristen) of Mt. Juliet Tennessee, Beverley Welch (Gregg) of Garner North Carolina, and Gracia Bentley of North Wilkesboro. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Adam Welch (Samantha), Leah Welch, Carter Bentley, Olivia Bentley, and one great-grandchild, Mac Welch. Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Lois Bentley, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Although Doris loved flowers, the family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro, P.O. Box 458, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659, or to Baptist Children’s Home of NC, P.O. Box 338, Thomasville, NC 27360.
