Diane (Blevins) Shumate

Mrs. Diane Blevins Shumate, age 75, of Newton, formerly of North Wilkesboro, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Carolina Caring in Newton. 

Diane was born July 26, 1949, in Wilkes County to Don Calloway and Cassie Handy Blevins. Diane worked for the Wilkes Senior Citizen Council for over 30 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Taylorsville, NC. She was a faithful Christian and a light that shined for her Lord and Savior. Diane loved traveling with her husband and spending time with her family. She was known for her cooking and entertaining for many that she so enjoyed. Mrs. Shumate was a blessing to many as a Pastor’s wife of many years, to her friends, and especially to her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Rev. Eddie Steven Shumate, and a brother; Rev. Donald Blevins. 

She is survived by her daughter; Stephanie Shumate Land and husband, TSgt. Mark Land of Newton, son; Richard S. Shumate and wife Amy of North Wilkesboro, four grandchildren; Amber S. Bowlin (Cody), Carrie L. Winkler (Jacob), Lindsey N. Smith (Jonathan), Steven E. Shumate (Bethany), five great-grandchildren; Lydia Shumate, Charity Bowlin, Cassie Bowlin, Ivy Bowlin, Landon Winkler, and a sister; Gail B. Gentry of North Wilkesboro. 

The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM until 3:45 PM at Calvary Baptist Church in Taylorsville prior to the service. Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Monday, February 17, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church in Taylorsville with Rev. Stephen Dagenhart, Rev. Mike Soop, and Rev. Tony Land officiating. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
