Della Mae (Wingler) Shumate

Mrs. Della Mae Wingler Shumate, age 95, of North Wilkesboro passed away Friday, December 19, 2025, at Wilkes Assisted Living. 

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, December 29, 2025, at Liberty Grove Baptist Church with Rev. David Sparks and Rev. Joel Blevins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. 

Following the service, the family will host a reception in the fellowship hall of Liberty Grove Baptist Church. All are invited to attend.

Della Mae was born January 15, 1930, in Wilkes County to Oscar Emery and Pearlie Taylor Wingler. She was a member of Liberty Grove Baptist Church. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Warner Hardin Shumate. 

She is survived by two daughters; Shirley Ann Kaasa (Laurin J.) of Summerville, SC, Sally Jane Dixon (Marion E) of Morganton, NC, three grandchildren; Laurence J. Kaasa of Charlotte, Amelia H. Rowland (Ronald) of Charleston, SC, Jarrod M. Dixon of Raleigh, two great-grandchildren; Anna Rowland and Cate Rowland of Charleston, SC, two sisters; Nell Parker of North Wilkesboro, Margie Walker of Kannapolis, two brothers; Clate Wingler of Yadkinville, and Odell Wingler of North Wilkesboro. 

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Liberty Grove Baptist Church, 5899 River Rd./Liberty Grove Road, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.
