David Bruce Walsh, Jr.

Mr. David Bruce Walsh, Jr., age 61, of Boomer passed away Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Amorem Hospice Home in Hudson.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

David was born on August 16, 1964, in Wilkes County to David Bruce Walsh, Sr. and Gayle Myers Walsh.

David devoted his life to serving others through hard work, respect, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community. For many years, he worked in maintenance at Eckerd Youth Alternative Camp, where he became much more than an employee, but he became a trusted mentor, friend, and father figure to countless campers and staff. Affectionately known as “Pop David,” he was a beloved presence whose warm smile, steady encouragement, and caring heart left a lasting impression on everyone he met. David truly loved his time at the camp and took great pride in helping create a safe, welcoming environment where young people could grow, learn, and feel valued. The impact he made there continues to live on through the many lives he touched.

Alongside his work at Eckerd, David helped operate the family’s beloved carp pond, Walsh’s Fishlake, a place that became a gathering spot for friends, family, and anglers from near and far. Through his dedication and hospitality, David set the standard for how people should be welcomed with generosity, laughter, and genuine friendship. Walsh’s Fishlake was more than a destination; it was a reflection of David himself. Together with his wife, Stephanie, whose cooking became legendary among visitors, he helped create cherished memories and traditions that will be remembered for years to come.

No matter how busy life became, David’s greatest pride was always his family. He never missed an opportunity to support his daughters and celebrate their accomplishments. Whether cheering from the sidelines at every softball game for his youngest daughter, Christa Walsh-Triplett, or encouraging and supporting the many talents and endeavors of his oldest daughter, Cheyenne Walsh, David was their biggest fan. His love, guidance, and steadfast presence provided a foundation of strength and confidence that will remain with them forever.

After leaving Eckerd, David continued his career with the North Carolina Department of Transportation in Caldwell County, where he worked diligently and faithfully until illness made it impossible for him to continue. Throughout every chapter of his life, David was known for his remarkable work ethic, dependability, humility, and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He approached life with determination, compassion, and a servant’s heart, earning the respect and admiration of all who knew him.

David’s legacy is not measured by titles or accomplishments alone, but by the countless lives he touched through his kindness, generosity, and love. He leaves behind a lasting example of what it means to work hard, care deeply, and put others before yourself. Though he will be profoundly missed, the memories he created, the lessons he taught, and the love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him.

He is preceded in death by his father, David Bruce Walsh, Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Walsh of the home; two daughters, Cheyenne Walsh of Boomer, Christa Walsh Triplett (Holden) of Boomer; mother, Gayle Myers Walsh; two sisters, Lori Walsh Rhoades (Sherrill) of North Wilkesboro, Barbara Phillips (Dewayne) of Boomer; nieces and nephews, Mark Triplett II, Leah Miller, Sarah Miller, Erin Shumate, Hannah Beth Smithey and Tamera Bates. God blessed him with many close friends over the years all of whom are cherished and loved.
