David Daniel Doby, age 88 of North Wilkesboro passed away Sunday, July 19, 2020 at Mt. Valley Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born November 21, 1931 to James Calvin and Leona Johnson Doby.
Dan served in the United States Air Force as a flight engineer on a B-29 Bomber during the Korean War. He retired from the Educational Department in Punta Gorda, FL, where he served as a Media Technologist for a 5-county area.
Dan was a “fix-it” man who could repair every household appliance as well as anything with an engine. He could build things, make furniture and do plumbing. He was a lover of all animals, especially dogs, and owned seven during his life.
Dan was an antique Studebaker fan who enjoyed attending antique car shows, and would sometimes show his 1951 Studebaker.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his brother; Monroe Doby and his sister; Marie Goodson, a niece; Marvine Easter and nephew; Dean Goodson.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years; Patricia (Patty) Morgan Doby, three nephews; Woody Goodson of Lowgap, NC, Willard Goodson of Galax, VA and Jimmy Goodson of Mt. Airy and one niece; Betty Jean Stone of Mt. Airy and several grand nieces and nephews.
Dan will be remembered as a man who was always helpful to others, who was a loving and faithful husband and a true friend.
Graveside services with Military Honors by the United States Air Force and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, July 23, 2020 at Lewis Baptist Church Cemetery on Salisbury Road off of Highway 115 with Rev. Bruce Rhoades officiating.
