Mr. Craig Vance, age 63 of Wilkesboro, passed away on June 24, 2020 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. Because of his faith in Jesus, he is now in heaven with his Lord and Savior, and his faith has become sight.
Craig was born on July 31, 1956 in Cheverly, Maryland and grew up in that area until he left for Atlanta to attend Baptist University of America where he studied theology and was a basketball player. He met his wife Rebecca there and they married on March 2, 1977. Craig became an insurance agent, founding his own successful independent insurance agency which he ran for 38 years until his death. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to many different ventures and adventures in addition to his career.
He was known for his generosity and heart for those in need. A great conversationalist and a deep thinker, he had the ability to grasp and explain much about biblical truths. He showed great resolve, determination and endurance as physical limitations began to mar the last four years of his life. He had chosen to be an eye donor and would be so happy to know that his choice will give the gift of sight. He deeply loved his wife of 43 years and was immensely grateful for her devotion to him. The greatest joy of his life was spending time with his family and he so loved being “Grampy” to his precious grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca, of the home, seven beloved children: Stephanie Eve Hampton and husband Chris of Boone, Charity Faith Lovill and husband Kevin of Statesville, Jason Adam Vance of East Bend, Aaron Stephen Vance of N. Wilkesboro, Benjamin Craig Vance of N. Wilkesboro, Jordan Matthew Vance of Wilkesboro, and Nathan Alexander Vance and wife Nikki of Columbia, SC., 10 cherished grandchildren, his mother Nancie Vance of Harpers Ferry, WV, two sisters, Stana Vance and Kimberly Batch and two brothers, Clint Vance and Bret Vance and wife Doris, all of Harpers Ferry, WV. He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley C. Vance.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, June 28, 2020 at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Pastor Tim Loyola and Pastor Tom Loyola officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
