Colena (Lambert) Hutchens

Mrs. Shirley Colena Lambert Hutchens, age 87 of Wilkesboro passed away Saturday, July 5, 2025, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Congo Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Lynn Lambert and Pastor Luke Pyles officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, July 9,2025 at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. The casket will be placed in the church at 10:30 AM. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was born on January 24, 1938, in Wilkes County to Wiley and Mary Church Lambert.  Colena was a member of Congo Pentecostal Holiness Church.  She received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1970 and her Master of Arts degree in 1978 from Appalachian State University and taught publicly for 38 years. Colena was a Sunday School teacher for over 40 years.  She was also a part of the Reading I Care Program for 7 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Eugene Hutchens; sister, Opal Hamby; and brother, Bob Lambert.

She is survived by three sons, Mark Eugene Hutchens of Millers Creek, Eric Lambert Hutchens (Amy) of Millers Creek and Brian Christopher Hutchens (Heather) of Wilkesboro; eight grandchildren, Cori Wolfe, Casey Hutchens, Logan Hutchens, Bailey VanHoy, Tonya Hutchens, Brandon Hutchens, Katelyn Hutchens and Emma Hutchens; and two great grandchildren, Jameson Wolfe and Callen Wolfe.
