Clegg Scroggs, III Obituary

Mr. William Clegg Scroggs III. 

Mr. William Clegg Scroggs III, age 65, of Moravian Falls, N.C., passed away Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. 

William “Clegg” was born the 6th of April 1956 to William Clegg Scroggs Jr. and June Wessinger Scroggs. 

Clegg was preceded in death by his father, William “Bill” Scroggs Jr. 

He is survived by one son; William “W.C.” Scroggs IV, his mother June W. Scroggs, and brother John “Wes” Scroggs. 

Clegg graduated from Wilkes Central High School in 1974, where he excelled in tennis, football, and basketball. He went on to graduate from Wilkes Community College where he double majored with an Associate of Arts, Associates in Applied Science Criminal Justice- Protective Services, and received his Basic Law Enforcement Training Certificate. He began his career in 1980 working for Investigations and Security, Inc. where he achieved the rank of Security Guard Captain. From 1983-1998 Clegg worked for the Wilkesboro Police Department where he achieved the rank of Chief Investigator. In 1984 Clegg joined the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Department, where he served as an Auxiliary Deputy Sheriff until present day. From 1998-2014 Clegg worked as a facilities technician for Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home and Scenic Memorial Gardens. In 2014 Clegg joined the Wilkes Community College Campus Police Department where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant Investigator and he worked until present day. Clegg was a man of the people, at each and every one of the locations listed above he not only made friends, he made families. At any given time Clegg could be found supporting one of his many families and everyone knew if you were a part of his family you were family for life, and he would do anything to help his family. Clegg was a wonderful father, friend, and a truly genuine and one of a kind man. He lived to protect and to serve his community, and he will be dearly missed.

Clegg was a member of The Lutheran Church of the Atonement, Wilkesboro, N.C.  The family will hold a private memorial service at Moravian Falls Community Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clegg Scroggs Memorial Scholarship at Wilkes Community College. A scholarship established in his name to help students in a variety of technical programs further their educations through tuition assistance. Contributions to this scholarship should be made to the WCC Foundation to support WCC Technical programs, and mailed to P.O. Box 120, Wilkesboro, N.C. 28697.
