Claude Elbert Vannoy

Mr. Claude Elbert Vannoy, age 85, widower of Virginia Alene Brown Vannoy, died Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Wake Forest Baptist Health – Wilkes Medical Center. 

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Lyn Lambert officiating.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home prior to the service.  Entombment with military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 Honor Guard will be at Scenic Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. 

Mr. Vannoy was born July 5, 1935 in Wilkes County to Walter Worth Vannoy, Sr. and Beatrice Teresa Church Vannoy.  He was a church member at Welcome Home Baptist Church. 

Mr. Vannoy was a retired Lieutenant Colonel with 23 years active service in the U.S. Army.  His military career included graduation from the United States Army Command and General Staff College, a Battalion Command in Vietnam, as well as other state side and overseas assignments in the U.S. Army's Signals Intelligence Branch. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Vannoy was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Alene Brown Vannoy; one daughter, Marie A. Vannoy; and one brother, James M. Vannoy. 

He is survived by one daughter, Cindy Ensenat and husband, Ron, of Columbia, MD; one son, David Vannoy and wife, Debbie, of Spring Lake; three grandchildren, Christopher D. Vannoy and wife, Emily, Stephen M. Vannoy and fiancé, Ashlee Watts, and Sarah Marie Ensenat;  one sister, Annie Lee Haynes and husband, Ivery; and one brother, Walter Worth Vannoy, Jr. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marie and Virginia Vannoy Discipleship Fund, c/o Welcome Home Baptist Church, 132 Welcome Home church Road, North Wilkesboro NC 28659.
