Mr. Chris Allen Shumate, age 68 of Wilkesboro, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at his home. 

Funeral services will be held 5:00 PM Wednesday at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Tim Pruitt and Rev. Lane Roark officiating.  The family will receive friends from 3:45 until 4:45 PM prior to the service at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. 

Chris was born August 23, 1956, in Mecklenburg County to Carl Monroe Shumate and Essie Jenkins Shumate.  He was a member of Journey of Grace Baptist Church.  He retired from Tyson after 39 years of service. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

He is survived by his wife; Debbie Minton Shumate of the home, four sons; Mark (Angela) Shumate of Hickory, Shaun (Jamie) Shumate of Elkin, David (Amanda) Shumate of North Wilkesboro, James Shumate of North Wilkesboro, eleven grandchildren; Zachary Shumate, Blake Shumate, Brooklyn Bell, Bryson Shumate, Imogen Shumate, Isabella Shumate, Brailee Shumate, Jude Shumate, Drew Johnson, Sydney Shumate, three great grandchildren; Braxtin Johnson, Baker Johnson, Delilah Mae, two sisters; Debbie (Bobby) Childress of North Wilkesboro, Sherrie (Steve) Roope of Hays and two brothers; Kenneth (Stella) Shumate of Lumberton and Rickey Shumate of North Wilkesboro and honorary sister; Nancy Minton Orvis.. 

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
