Mrs. Cathy Childress Bowers, age 65 of North Wilkesboro, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem. 

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Traphill with Rev. Kevin Souther, and Rev. Larry Teague officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service at the church. 

Cathy was born August 22, 1960, in Alleghany County to Jimmie David and Nancy Marie Nelson Childress. She worked in the banking industry for 49 years. Cathy had a deep love for animals, as well as time at the beach, mountains, and walks with her husband David. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Jimmie David Childress; and her brother, John Sebastian. 

She is survived by her husband, David Bowers of the home; her mother, Nancy Nelson Childress of North Wilkesboro; brother, Walter Sebastian (Sandra) of North Wilkesboro; as well as several nieces and nephews.
