Carol Claycomb Obituary

Carol Hires Claycomb, of Wilkesboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on December 21, 2024, at the age of 82. She was born on February 15, 1942, in Daytona Beach, Florida, to Jim and Charlotte Hires.

Carol shared a remarkable 64-year marriage with her devoted husband, Jack, who survives her. Together, they built a loving family that brought her immense joy and pride. She is also survived by her three children: Chris Claycomb and wife, Debi, of Wilkesboro, North Carolina; Paul Claycomb and wife, Lesa, of Corinth, Texas; and John Claycomb and wife, Kristin, of Huntersville, North Carolina. Carol was also a cherished grandmother to eight grandchildren: Courtney Claycomb-Colbert (Justin Colbert) of Wilkesboro; Ian Claycomb of Charlotte; Payton Claycomb (Dr. Taylor Hayes) of Holly Springs; Aaron Claycomb, Will Claycomb, and Luke Claycomb of Corinth, Texas; and Ryan Claycomb and Bennett Claycomb of Huntersville.  Her legacy continues through her two great-grandchildren: Beau Colbert of Wilkesboro and Emmie Claycomb of Holly Springs.

Carol was also blessed with the care and companionship of her devoted caregiver, Gracie Jordan.

She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Susan Hires Long and Jane Hires; and her brother, Michael Hires.

Throughout her life, Carol found joy in the arts and travel. She had a particular love for ballet and dedicated many years to teaching young dance students. Her passion for the arts left an indelible mark on those she taught and inspired.

A private service will take place at a later date in Cassadaga, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to World Central Kitchen or a charity of one’s choosing.

May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
