Carl Henry Call

Carl Henry Call, age 92 of North Wilkesboro passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at his residence.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in North Wilkesboro and Sunday, April 14, 2024, from 3:00 PM until 4:30 PM at Ashe County Worship Center, 863 Ray Taylor Road, West Jefferson NC 28694.  A private family entombment will be held.

Carl was born December 29, 1931, in Wilkes County to Raymond and Reba Brooks Call.  He was a member of the Ashe County Worship Center in West Jefferson, NC.  He retired from Holly Farms/Tyson after 40+ years of service.  He also worked at Vaughn Bassett in Elkin for several years following retirement.  He was saved and baptized at an early age and later enjoyed helping in the construction of and attending Ashe County Worship Center in West Jefferson where his son is the Pastor.  Some of his hobbies included Nascar racing at the North Wilkesboro Speedway, going to the cattle sale with his grandson Will and playing cards with his granddaughter Hope.  He also enjoyed watching The Price is Right, collecting aluminum cans and donating the money from them to the church.  His favorite foods included biscuits and gravy, which he asked for daily, barbeque and anything sweet.  He really enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his new great granddaughter Willow.

Carl never met a stranger and loved to talk, laugh, and tell stories about his family.   He was a big cut-up who enjoyed life with lots of laughter, singing and dancing.  He was a dedicated worker and learned how to save money and provide for his family.  When he wasn’t working, he was always willing to lend a helping hand to his family and neighbors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Lucille Royal Call; four brothers, June, Leon, Paul, and Bill Call and one sister, Barbara Call McCloud.

He is survived by his son, Pastor Chuck Call, and wife Susan of Deep Gap; two grandchildren, William Call and wife Angel of Jefferson, Hope Call of Deep Gap; and one great granddaughter, Willow Call of Jefferson; one sister, Sally Austin of Denver, NC; two brothers, VE Call and wife Lynn of North Wilkesboro, Ray Call and wife Eunice of North Wilkesboro; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

A special thank you to his caregivers and others who took excellent care of him for the past two years; Will, Juanita, Pam, Leinze, Stephanie, Cheryl, Shelley, Josh,  and many others including his niece Debby and cousins, Alyvia, and Kaylee.
