Mr. Billy George Church, age 84 North Wilkesboro passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Westwood Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Greg Hall and Rev. Derrick Hodges officiating. Burial will be in Hilltop Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the service at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

He was a beloved son, husband, dad, “Papaw”, uncle and friend to many. Those who knew him knew that he loved Jesus, his family, playing pool, good food, rockabilly and jazz music, and took great pride in his painting career – often revered as one of the best painters in Wilkes County and well-known for his faux finishing work. He was a devout church goer and his “amen” was unmistakable in the sanctuary, as he loved listening to good preaching. Although the love of his life, Edith, passed on before him, his love and devotion to her never wavered.  His love for his family was ever-constant; his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchild were his pride and joy. He will be fondly remembered for his laugh, giving you “a 10!” for your joke (even if it was sub-par), calling his grandchildren on Christmas Eve as “Santa”, and always having something nice to say no matter the situation. He was truly a great man and is sorely missed.

Billy was born February 9, 1938 in Wilkes County to Spencer Grady and Vera Goodman Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; Maggie “Edith” Jennings Church, two sisters; Vetra Church, Bernice Snuggs, four brothers; Paul Church, Silas Church, Ray Church and Gene Church.

He is survived by a daughter; Tammy (Randy) Bowlin of Millers Creek, three sons; Billy Church, Steve (Junie) Eller, Ricky (Teresa) Eller all of North Wilkesboro, eight grandchildren; Casey Minton, Kati Petrey, Lathan Church, Colton Church, Nevin Johnson, Shana Johnson, Clayton Mathis, Sherri Cothren, seven great grandchildren; Beckam Minton, Barrett Minton, Adam Mathis, Ansleigh Mathis, Jacey Cothren, Erin Cothren, Callum Johnson, two great great grandchildren; Paulina Johnson, Michael Johnson, one great great great grandchild; Braylen Bell and one brother; Rex Church of North Wilkesboro.
