Mrs. Betty Smithey Queen, age 94 of Wilkesboro, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House in Mooresville.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Osborne, Rev. Billy Felts, and Rev. Eddie Tharpe officiating. The casket will be placed in the church at 1:30 PM until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, March 13, 2026, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
Betty was born December 4, 1931, in Wilkes County to William Robert and Rose Gentle Smithey.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Herman Roy Queen; son, John Frances “Johnny” Queen; two sisters, Sybil Treadway, Dorothy Stroud; three brothers, Charlie Smithey, Pete Smithey, and Wade Smithey.
She is survived by her two daughters, Joyce Queen Church of Statesville, Ethel Queen Hardy of Wilkesboro; three sons, Roger Queen of Statesville, Donald Queen (Sandra) of Stony Point, Ronald “Ronnie” Queen (Donna) of Stony Point; fourteen grandchildren, Wayne Church, Steve Church, Ken Church, Candie McClung, Christina Bennett, Mark Bennett, Jr., David Bennett, Kelly Lacky, Robin Clanton, Daniel Queen, Misty Stroud, William Queen, Eric Wadell, Kevin Wadell; thirty two great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren on the way; one sister, Marion Smithey Cleary of Salisbury, and one brother, Calvin Smithey (Vera) of Lenoir.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Liberty Baptist Church, 11409 Brushy Mountain Road, Moravian Falls, NC 28654.
