Betty Gregory Obituary

Betty Lunsford Gregory, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on December 21 at the age of 87. Born in Union Grove, NC, on March 5, 1937. Betty was the daughter of Ray Lunsford and Nell Lunsford. Betty was born into a large, musical family that loves to play instruments, laugh, and dance. She did enjoy laughing and had a special kind of humor and frequently was overheard calling mischievous friends or family "a bad egg" with a twinkle in her eye.

She married the love of her life, Claude Gregory, on October 19, 1956. They shared 68 years of marriage and created a life full of laughter, fun, and faith with family. She did love to sing, and was a member of a Gospel quartet, The Thankful Hearts, for 52 years. She enjoyed time with family at home, especially Easter Egg hunts and Christmas caroling. Most importantly Betty had a strong faith in God and was an avid church goer.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her sisters Audrey Jordan, Geraldine Prevette, and Rose Annette Prevette.

Betty was a devoted wife and a loving mother to her children, Andrea Gregory Pinnix (Dicky) of Hamptonville, NC, and Tonya Gregory Pierce (Jeff) of Statesville, NC. She was also a cherished grandmother to her grandchildren: Jared Pinnix of Hamptonville, NC, Melia Womac (Austin) of Maryville, TN, Callie McQuain (David) of Jacksonville, NC, Colt Pierce (Megan) of Clinton, NC, Brett Pinnix (Elizabeth) of Wilmington, NC, Carlie O’Connor (Chris) of Blowing Rock, NC, and Carson Pierce of Statesville, NC. She was a beloved great-grandmother to her great-grandchildren: Matthew Pinnix, Annie & Josie Womac, Isaiah, Noah, Gabe, Naomi, and Baby McQuain (due in December), Brycen, Emmy, & Ella Pierce, and Charlotte O’Connor. Betty is also survived by her brothers Jack Lunsford of Union Grove, Allen Lunsford (Rose) of Union Grove, and Clay Lunsford (Jean) of Union Grove.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Mountain Valley Hospice for their enduring and loving care provided to Betty during her illness. Special thanks to her home caregivers Christine, Mary, Brittany, Candace, Beverly, Barbara, and sweet little Sarah.

Betty will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She will be remembered for her sense of humor. She always claimed she would leave us in December, only she said it would be by reindeer, going home from our house Christmas Eve.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, December 27, 2024, at Union Grove Christian Church with Rev. Allen Lunsford and Rev. Bradley Daniels officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM prior to the service at the church.

Flowers will be accepted or donations made in her memory to Mountain Valley Hospice. “Through many dangers, toils, and snares, We have already come, 'Twas grace that brought us safe thus far, And grace will lead us home”
