Betty (Bumgarner) Jones

Mrs. Betty Bumgarner Jones, age 91, of Ferguson passed away Tuesday April 26, 2022, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist-Wilkes Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday May 1, 2022, at Davis Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Hadley Triplett officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM at the church prior to the service.

Betty was born weighing less than 3 pounds on April 28, 1930, in Wilkes County to Harry Delbert and Velma Veoria Elledge Bumgarner. She married and, except for brief times away, lived in the Champion community all her life. Her life was full of family, friends, work and church. She owned and operated Betty’s Beauty Shop until in her 80’s; finally closing her business was a sad moment as she loved seeing longtime patrons come through her doors. Betty also loved music and played piano for Davis Memorial Baptist Church where she was a long time member until unable to do so anymore. She loved to share her knowledge of piano, knitting and cooking with whoever wanted to learn. Seeing friends and family come to visit made the last months of her life blessed and full of joy.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Charles Wayne Jones; one daughter Kathy Gail Triplette; three sisters: Pauline Hendrix, Dina Mae Benge, and Bertha June Dockery.

She is survived by two daughters: Teresa Lynn Harkness (Dale) of Clemmons, Donna Sue Davis (Alcus) of Stafford, VA: Nine grandchildren: Brittany Paige Acosta (Josh), Sarah Meghan Davis, Ethan Wayne Davis, Jeffrey Wayne Triplette, Christopher Scott Triplette, Jason Biard Ray (Sarah), Tracie Amanda Marino (James), Jearl Christian Davis, Christina Marie Harkness; seven great-grandchildren: Gabriella Elizabeth Marino, Maxwell James Marino, Mary Rose Marino, Austin Wayne Triplette, Sophia Grace Ray, Taylor Jane Ray: one sister: Nancy Louise Craven of Ferguson; one brother: Ron Jones (Betty) of Charlotte.
