Mr. Benny Hayes Wellborn, age 82, of Wilkesboro passed away Friday, March 20, 2026, at his home surrounded by family and friends.
A Private Celebration of Life will be held.
Benny was born on February 27, 1944, in Watauga County to George Hayes and Mary Wellborn. He was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of North Wilkesboro. Benny was a veteran with the United States Air Force. He dedicated many years of service to Lowes Companies, where he eventually retired. Benny was also a proud member of the Ashler Masonic Lodge #373 in Deep Gap.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, Rebecca Morrison and Betsy Hill.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Carolyn White Wellborn, of the home; five children, Toni Wellborn Bryan (Steve) of North Wilkesboro, Amber Wellborn Edmiston (Brent) of North Wilkesboro, Benny Hayes Wellborn II (Amy) of Banner Elk, Erika Ortega (Robert) of Columbia, SC, Stephanie Peterson of Washington State; eleven grandchildren, Ashley Bryan Lyons (Austin), Evan Edmiston (Courtney), Chandler Bryan, Kaitlyn Edmiston Ferguson ( Travis), Alexandra Bryan Cleary (Tyler), Ty Bryan, Carson Edmiston, Trent Wellborn, Salem Wellborn, Jaxson Ortega, Benjamin Ortega; two great-grandchildren, Olivia Lyons, Adeline Edmiston; a sister, Beatrice Wellborn of Wilkesboro and brother, Danny Wellborn of Deep Gap.
