Barbara McFarland passed away March 10, 2025, having spent 87 wonderful years on this planet with loving family and friends along her journey. She is the daughter of Connie and Pansy Sloop Kilby and was born in Wilkes County on October 31, 1937. Her life’s travels took her to both the East and West Coast and all points in between. She was an avid Los Angeles Rams fan from the 1970’s and 80’s when she lived in California and a loyal Yankees fan her entire life. She loved cooking, collecting her crafts, decorating her home for the holidays and was quick to send a card to family and friends for any occasion. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with family, working jigsaw puzzles, and babysitting her adopted fur babies, Gizmo and Callie.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James C. McFarland, to whom she was married for 54+ wonderful years, her parents, Connie and Pansy Kilby, and her sister, Eddwynna “Winkey” Coleman. She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews whom she always viewed as her own children as well.
A special thank you to Hugh Chatham Health at Home, Wilkes Health & Rehab, and Mountain Valley Hospice. Those special individuals who not only brightened her day but opened up their hearts and allowed her to brighten theirs as well.
In lieu of flowers, any donations made on her behalf of Hospice would be greatly appreciated.
