Mrs. Barbara Curtis McNeil, loving Mother and Grandmother, age 80 of Millers Creek, met her Lord and Savior after an extended illness surrounded by her family Monday, July 21, 2025, at her home.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Eddie Tharpe, Rev. Derick Hodges and Rev. Jamie McGuire officiating. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:45 PM prior to the service at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
Barbara was born, March 26, 1945, in Wilkes County to Felts August and Venie Rose Miller Curtis. Barbara was a 4H leader and started Cloverbuds. She was on her high school committee, active member in New Hope Baptist Church where she served on church committees. She loved to sew and craft, she loved working in her yard, gardening, and vacations with her daughters and planning holiday dinners for her family. Barbara’s girls were her pride and joy, she loved spending her time with them. She also enjoyed running around with her side-kick sister, Nancy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Jimmy Bryan McNeil, sisters; Kathleen Curtis Killian, Margaret Curtis Gales, Reta Sue Taylor, Louise Marie Chambers, brothers; Gilbert Curtis, Richard Summerfield Curtis and Buddy Curtis.
She is survived by three daughters; Pamela Ferguson Thompson (Brent) of Lenoir, Lesa Carson Ollis (Marty) of Bristol, TN, Dana Ferguson Edwards (Ken) of King, step-son; Kennith McNeil of Atlanta, GA, grandchildren; Justin Shell (Charity), Barron Shell (Briana), Heather Wagoner, Lauren Carson Overcast (Gabriel), Cory Carson (Allison), Kody Nichols (Oma), Dalton Edwards, Cariss Thompson, Gavin Thompson, Glenda Thompson, fifteen great grandchildren, a sister; Marlene “Molly” Laws of Purlear, Nancy Drennen of Catawba, a brother; Wayne Curtis (Wanda) of Purlear, sisters-in-law; Blanch Curtis of North Wilkesboro, Joan Curtis of Wilkesboro and Connie Curtis of Millers Creek.
