Audrey Dickerson Leapley

Mrs. Audrey Dickerson Leapley, age 92 of North Wilkesboro passed away Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Wake Forest Baptist-Wilkes Medical Center in North Wilkesboro, NC. 

A private family graveside service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Wilson, NC with Mr. Robert Speight, Jr. officiating.  

Audrey was born May 29, 1927 in Lizzie, NC.  She was the daughter of the late Agatha Harrington and Leroy Thomas Dickerson.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Howard Leapley, sisters Ethel Mae Dickerson, Joyce D. Sutton and Sybil D. Reed. 

She was raised in Greene County, NC graduating from Maury High School, valedictorian of her class. She received a Business Degree from King’s College in Raleigh, NC. 

She worked as an administrative assistant at Wilson Community College in the Fire Training and Safety Program until her retirement in 1992. 

Audrey was a long time member of Winstead United Methodist Church in Wilson, NC before moving to North Wilkesboro, NC.  After relocating she transferred her membership to First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro.  

She is survived by two daughters; Cindy Dixon of Roanoke Rapids, Shelley Barnes of North Wilkesboro and husband David, one son; Mickey Leapley and wife Larisa of North Wilkesboro, six grandchildren; Joshua McMurtrey, Molly McMurtrey Spearman and husband Barrett, Jeremy Barnes, Allyson Barnes Rogers and husband Kyle, Olivia Leapley and Sydney Leapley and two great grandchildren; Mason Spearman and Harper Spearman. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4600 Park Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209.
