Mr. Archie Cleveland Johnson, age 73 of Moravian Falls, husband of Wanda Moretz Johnson, passed away Friday, November 3rd, 2023 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Wilkes Medical Center.
Archie was born August 30th, 1950 in Wilkes County to James Ernest and Mattie Benge Johnson and was a licensed Baptist minister for 47 years. He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 35 years.
Archie had a great fondness for spending time outdoors “up on the mountain” while hunting and practicing his marksmanship with family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his large family, making new friends and acquaintances, and ministering to others while doing everyday things like banking at First National Bank, eating breakfast at Bojangles or Shortstops, and preaching at different nursing homes in the area. Archie had a great sense of humor, a sharp wit, and everyone’s love of him was clearly displayed in recent days by all the nurses and assistants who cared for him and those who stopped by to see how he was doing. But his brothers and sisters in Christ will always know him best by his catch phrase of “Praise God!”, ” Praise God!”, “Praise God!”, while preaching or testifying at church.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 7th at Calvary Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro with Pastor Mark Hall, Rev. Larry Adams, and Rev. John Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday night from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. The burial will be in the Johnson Family Cemetery located at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter (infant) April Johnson; two sisters, Lucille Johnson (Mitchell) and Louise Haynes (Bruce); seven brothers, Vestal Johnson (Ethel), Junior Johnson (Pauline), Warner Johnson, Phillip Johnson, Silas Johnson (Bessie), Paul Johnson (infant), and Chester Johnson; six brothers-in-law, RC Johnson, Alfred Moretz, Jerry Hartley, Avery Moretz (Brenda), Samuel Lowe, Buster Moretz; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Arthur and Emma Moretz.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Wanda Moretz Johnson of the home; one son, Chris Johnson (Janice); one daughter, Karen Johnson Miller (Scott); four grandchildren, Andrew Johnson, Christina Johnson, Hope Miller, and Noah Miller; four sisters, Doris Johnson, Mozelle Johnson, Shirley Church (Rex), and Frances Moretz; two brothers, Roby Johnson (Julene) and Ray Johnson (Judy); four sisters-in-law, Norma Sue “Jane” Johnson; Sylvia Smith (Ray), Myrtle Lowe, Rachel Hartley; four brothers-in-law, Allie Moretz (Jean), James Moretz (Margie), Larry Moretz (Sandy), Gary Moretz (Julie).
The family would also like to thank the helpful doctors, nurses, and assistants of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Wilkes Medical Center, Medi Home Health & Hospice, and Ridge Valley Rehabilitation.
