Alma Jean Welborn Wells, better known as “Bug”, age 87 of Ronda, N.C. took her heavenly flight from Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, N.C. on Monday morning, November 3, 2025 and immediately arrived in the presence of the Lord.

Bug was born to Ottis Calvin and Alma (Blevins) Welborn on April 10, 1938 and was one of 13 siblings/half siblings. She worked for 20 years at the Ronda Clingman School cafeteria using her baking talents to feed those hungry for her rolls and baked goods. Her family will miss her cooking specialties such as stew potatoes, pinto beans, cornbread, chicken/gravy, sweet potato pies and so much more. Funny how when we all headed home after a wonderful homecooked meal, she aways had “extras” to share with us for the coming week. She loved watching Bob Ross painting videos and word search puzzles. And was an avid collector of Cabbage Patch Dolls.

She is preceded in death by her parents, twin siblings, sisters: Betty Ann, “Tut” (Glenn) Johnson, Nancy “High Knocky” (Bill) Gray, Mildred “Teet” (Buford) King and brothers: Bill (Hilda) Welborn, Tommy Welborn and several half-brothers, half-sisters, and in-laws. After the love of her life enjoying 68 years of marriage with her
husband, Jack Wells, who went home to be with the Lord in 2022, she felt totally lost without him. Still amazed how a half piece of chewing gum started their journey together. We’re thinking on Monday she was ready for that second half of gum.

She is survived by her children, Debbie (Steve) Wiles, Rodney (Rita) Wells, Tracy (Steve) Burke, Stacy (Leigh) Wells; grand-children, Katie (Brad) Hub, Jackson (Morgan) Wiles, Stevi Wiles, Alison Wells, great-grandchildren Kaley, Brady and Rylee Hub, sisters-in-law, Sherry Welborn, and Dorothy (Raeford) Rash, special nieces and nephews, a friend who was like a sister - Freida Ann Gregory, and her beloved furry cat friend named Little. She sang in the Dennyville Baptist Church choir for over 60 years as an altoist loving those good ole Gospel songs. Having made a profession of faith at the age of 13, she lived a life with the end in sight because to be “absent from the body,” when you know the Lord as your personal Savior, “and to be present with the Lord” (II Corinthians 5:8b) for all eternity. Can’t ask for more than that. Momma, we already miss you terribly and letting you go is the hardest thing we’ve had to do since Daddy went home. But we know you have been healed by our Great Physician and finally at home where you’ve wanted to be for years.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 7, at Dennyville Baptist Church with Pastor Jason Wiles, and Pastor Joe Souther officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the service at the church.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Dennyville Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2713 Old Highway 60, Ronda, NC 28670 or to your favorite charity. A very special thanks to all the caretakers, nurses, doctors and staff who went the extra mile in caring for her; y’all are so loved and appreciated! Also, thanks to all the community outreach of love and support.
