Joel Hart Dimmette, 81, of Wilkesboro, NC passed away October 8, 2019 at WFBH Hospital in Winston Salem, NC. His celebration of life will take place Friday, October 11, 2019 at 1pm at First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro officiated by Dr. Bert Young. The Family will receive following the service in the church sanctuary. A private family inurnment will follow.
Joel’s one request was that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to his beloved church, First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro, P.O. Box 458, N. Wilkesboro, NC 28659.
Joel was born in Lenoir, NC on January 13, 1938 to Laudie Ernest and Nannie Hart Dimmette. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ervin H. Dimmette, and two sisters, Dulcie Barlow and Laudie Porter. Two sisters survive him, Nan Spainhour and Rebecca DesMarais. Joel is survived by his wife Glenda J. Dimmette, three daughters from a previous marriage, Ashley Cole and husband George, Elizabeth Dimmette-Coyne and husband John Coyne, Anne Bell and husband Bob and one stepdaughter, Kimberly Bush and husband Barry. He was the loving grandparent of 10 grandchildren; Alexander and Harrison Cole, Claire Bell Scharfen, Lindsay and Graham Bell, Ella and August Coyne, Amber, Danielle and Melissa Bush.
Joel was a proud alumna of Westtown Prepatory School and UNC-Chapel Hill (1959.) Upon graduation he worked with his father at Fidelity Insurance Agency and Dimmette Realty in Lenoir, NC. In 1989 Joel moved to Wilkesboro, NC. with his wife, Glenda. Together, they established JG Associates, a commercial financial consulting company and worked hand in hand for over 25 years.
Joel had many achievements throughout his life - assuming leadership roles in business, church and community. But what meant most to him was expressing his faith through ministry to others. He volunteered throughout Wilkes County and beyond, building handicap ramps and repairing roofs, kitchens - whatever was needed to those who needed assistance. He possessed a loving heart and always saw the good in everyone. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
