Obituary for Pearl Dawson Whaley

On March 5,2018, Pearl “Nanny” Whaley, 89 of Wilkes Senior Village rejoined her husband, Owen Thomas. Pearl was born to Benjamin Franklin and Lola Hines Dawson on October 11, 1928.

Pearl worked at Naval Supply in Virginia and in later years at Walmart and Wilkes Grandparent Program. She loved baking cakes and growing roses and all who knew her were often gifted with cakes or roses.

In addition to her husband and parents, Pearl is preceded in death by her brother, Clyde Dawson and sister, Dora Newman.

Survivors include, her daughter Sylvia Whaley and her husband, Thomas. Two Grandchildren, Thomas Edward Mills and Lola Marie McDaniels and husband Phillip, and one great grandson, Owen Gabriel Mills.
As well as her brother, Nathan Dawson and his wife Evelyn of Goldsboro, NC.

A private celebration of life was held and will be held by the family.

The family would like to thank the staff of Wilkes Traditional Living, Wilkes Senior Village, Wilkes Medical Center, and Medi Home Hospice where Casey, Keena and all the rest were wonderful; with a special thank you to Joyce Gonda and Laurencene Dillard for the love and care shown to Pearl during her battle with dementia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Medi Home Hospice of Sparta PO Box 1287 Sparta, NC 28675, any stroke prevention research, and dementia research.
